How to use the sauna correctly?

In modern life, sauna has become a popular way to unwind. But to truly benefit, you need to do it right. Incorrect sauna – taking can be harmful rather than helpful. Here are the key steps.

Before the Sauna

Proper prep is essential. First, don’t sauna on an empty stomach, right after a big meal, or after drinking alcohol. An empty stomach may lead to low blood sugar, a full stomach disrupts digestion, and alcohol, by speeding up blood circulation, overburdens the heart in a sauna.

Drink about 200 – 300 ml of warm water around 30 minutes before. This helps prevent dehydration. Also, wear loose, sweat – absorbent clothes and leave metal items behind to avoid burns.

During the Sauna

Once inside, ease into the heat. Start in a 60 – 70°C area for 5 – 10 minutes to acclimatize, then move to 80 – 100°C if you can handle it. Each session should last 10 – 15 minutes. Pay attention to how you feel. If you experience dizziness, a rapid heartbeat, or breathing difficulties, exit immediately.

Keep hydrating. Sip 50 – 100 ml of warm water at a time. Don’t gulp it down to avoid straining your stomach. And change your position often to promote even blood flow.

After the Sauna

After sweating it out, don’t jump into a cold shower. Let your body cool down in a cooler area for 15 – 20 minutes. Then, take a warm – water rinse at 37 – 40°C to clean up without shocking your system.

Since your body has burned energy, have some protein – and vitamin – rich foods like eggs, milk, or fruits. Also, get enough rest and avoid strenuous activities.

Taking a sauna the right way can bring relaxation and health benefits. By following these steps, you can enjoy the heat safely and make the most of your sauna experience.
